NORFOLK, Va. – Despite a strong 19-save performance from goaltender Jaroslav Janus, the Norfolk Admirals (3-6-0-0) fell to the Syracuse Crunch (4-4-1-1) 2-0 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Crunch jumped out of the gates with a goal only 32 seconds into the period. Mathieu Roy sent a shot from the right point that was stopped by Norfolk netminder Jaroslav Janus. The rebound landed in the crease, where Alexandre Picard scooped it up and sent a forehand shot into the net while falling down.
The Admirals out-shot the Crunch 32-20 from that point on but were unable to dent the twine behind Crunch netminder Dan LaCosta. Pascal Pelletier tacked on an empty-net goal with 33 seconds remaining for a 2-0 final score.
Jaroslav Janus (20 shots, 19 saves) was saddled with the loss. Dan LaCosta (32 shots, 32 saves) picked up the shutout victory.
Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Syracuse was 0-4.
The Admirals will now play 14 of their next 18 games on the road. That stretch kicks off with a four-game road trip next week beginning with Monday and Tuesday night contests against the Manitoba Moose. The puck drops both nights at 8:30 p.m. ET.
