Sixteen Former Admirals Players to Compete for Stanley Cup


NORFOLK, Va. – When the Stanley Cup Final gets underway this Saturday evening in Chicago, sixteen former Admirals will be among those competing for hockey’s holy grail as the Chicago Blackhawks host the Philadelphia Flyers in Game One.

The Blackhawks, who defeated the San Jose Sharks four-games-to-zero in the Western Conference Final, have fourteen former Admirals players and four former Admirals staff members working toward winning the Stanley Cup. Headlining that group is Dustin Byfuglien, who scored three of Chicago’s four game-winning goals in their conference final series against the Sharks.

The Flyers, who defeated the Montréal Canadiens four-games-to-one in the Eastern Conference Final, have two former Admirals players working toward winning the Stanley Cup. All-time Admirals wins leader Michael Leighton recorded three shutouts in Philadelphia’s conference final series against the Canadiens.

The following former Admirals players/staff are listed by team with number of games played as an Admiral and the seasons they were with the Admirals given in parenthesis:

In addition to those players in the Stanley Cup Final, three former Admirals are still alive in the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup Playoffs. Ethan Graham (16 GP, 2009-10), Andrew Hutchinson (20 GP, 2008-09) and Dan Jancevski (37 GP, 2007-08) are taking part in the Western Conference Finals as members of the Texas Stars (Dallas Stars affiliate). The Stars won game six last night to tie their best-of-seven series against the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montréal Canadiens affiliate) at three games apiece. The winner of tomorrow night’s decisive seventh game in Hamilton will square off against the Hershey Bears in the Calder Cup Final. Hershey (Washington Capitals affiliate) defeated the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings affiliate) four-games-to-two in the Eastern Conference Final.
