Admirals Drop 3-1 Contest at Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. – Paul Szczechura scored the lone goal as the Norfolk Admirals (7-4-3-1) fell to the Worcester Sharks (7-4-1-2), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the DCU Center. The Admirals fell to 1-1-2-0 through four legs of their five-game road trip, which concludes on Friday night against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m.

The Sharks took a 1-0 lead 14:34 into the first period. Dan DaSilva sent the initial shot from the left circle off the pads of Norfolk netminder Cedrick Desjardins. Sharks forward Andrew Desjardins then backhanded the rebound behind the net to Kevin Henderson, and Henderson sent a pass back to DaSilva in the left circle for a shot over the prone goaltender and into the net.

Worcester doubled its lead midway through the second period on a give-and-go play. Mike Moore entered the attacking zone in the high slot and passed it to Henderson in the left circle. Henderson returned the puck to Moore in the low slot, and Moore fired a shot past the glove of Desjardins at 13:27 for a 2-0 Sharks lead.

Norfolk cut its deficit to 2-1 less than five minutes later. Radko Gudas sent a shot from the top of the right circle into traffic. Paul Szczechura spotted the loose puck and lifted a shot from the right circle over Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock at 18:06 for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Moore’s second goal of the contest restored the Sharks’ two-goal lead at 6:26 of the third period. He sent a shot from the left point through a maze of bodies and past a screened Cedrick Desjardins for a 3-1 Worcester lead.

Cedrick Desjardins (25 shots, 22 saves) took the loss. Alex Stalock (28 shots, 27 saves) earned the win.

Both teams were 0-4 on the power play.
