Goaltender Jaroslav Janus and Forward Johan Harju Return to Admirals
TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned goaltender Jaroslav Janus (YAHR-oh-slahv YAHN-ihs) to the Admirals from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades today. In addition, the Lightning have reassigned forward Johan Harju (har-YOO) to the Admirals. Both announcements were made by Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman.
Janus, 6-foot-1, 189-pounds, a goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, has posted an 8-6-0-0 record in 16 games with the Everblades this season with a 3.04 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. In his last nine games with Florida, Janus posted a 5-3-0-0 record with a 2.26 GAA and .931 save percentage. He was assigned to the Everblades from Norfolk on October 17 after serving as a backup for the Admirals in two games to begin the 2010-11 season.
Janus, 21, appeared in 13 games for the Admirals last season, posting a 7-6-0 record with one shutout, a 2.07 GAA and .922 save percentage. He led Norfolk in goals-against average and save percentage in his first season of professional hockey. He began the 2009-10 season by appearing with the Admirals in his first two pro games on a Professional Tryout Contract.
Janus played in 110 career OHL games with the Erie Otters, posting a 45-53-7 record with a 3.69 GAA. At the 2009 World Junior Championships with Team Slovakia, Janus posted a 3-4-0 record with a 3.20 GAA and a .932 save percentage in seven games. He was named the tournament’s top goaltender by attending media. Tampa Bay drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Harju, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, was assigned to the Admirals by the Lightning on Thursday. He has appeared in 19 games with the Admirals this season in his North American debut, recording 14 goals and 24 points with a plus-8 rating. He leads Norfolk in goals and is tied for the team lead in points. He also is tied for eighth in the AHL in goals.
A native of Overtornea, Sweden, Harju has played in seven games with the Lightning this season, recording a goal and two points. He notched his first NHL point on December 4 against Colorado with an assist and followed that up with his first goal December 7 at Calgary.
Harju was selected by the Lightning in the sixth round, 167th overall, of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The Admirals’ next game takes place this evening in Hershey, Pennsylvania, with the first matchup of 2010-11 against the Bears. The puck drops at 5:00 p.m. Due to Washington Redskins football there will not be a radio broadcast of the game on 102.1-FM or 1490-AM.
