Admirals Sign Forward Philip-Michael Devos to Two-Year Contract
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Admirals have signed forward Philip-Michael Devos to a two-year American Hockey League Standard Player's Contract, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Devos, 21, a 5-foot-11, 184-pound center from Sorel-Tracy, Québec, won the Jean Béliveau Trophy as the top scorer in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2010-11. In 68 games between the Victoriaville Tigres and Gatineau Olympiques, Devos scored 47 goals and 114 points. He also registered 31 penalty minutes and a plus-29 rating. Devos led the QMJHL in points and ranked second in goals and assists (67).
"We are excited to add a young player with a résumé like Philip-Michael's to our organization," said BriseBois upon making the announcement. "We look forward to working with him and helping him reach his full potential as a professional hockey player."
Despite appearing in only 41 of Victoriaville's 68 games prior to being traded to Gatineau, Devos still led the Tigres in scoring with 73 points (29g, 44a). Following his trade to the Olympiques, Devos played 27 games and scored 18 goals and 41 points. He helped Gatineau reach the President's Cup Finals this season where they fell in six games to the Saint John Sea Dogs. In 24 post-season games, Devos recorded ten goals and 29 points.
In addition to the Béliveau Trophy, Devos also was a 2010-11 QMJHL Second All-Star Team selection and recipient of the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the QMJHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player. Devos was also a finalist for the league's most valuable player award.
Devos played 325 games during his five-year junior career between the Tigres and Olympiques, scoring 112 goals and 294 points with 194 penalty minutes. In 50 career QMJHL playoff games, Devos recorded 22 goals and 58 points.
