TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have re-signed forward Mike Angelidis to a one-year, two-way contract, Lightning vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced.
Angelidis, 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, was one of only two players to appear in all 80 games with the Admirals last season. The center registered 20 goals and 38 points with a plus-18 rating and 169 penalty minutes. Angelidis ranked fifth on the team for goals, seventh for points and led all skaters in plus/minus and penalty minutes. He also skated in three Calder Cup Playoff games.
Angelidis has played in 315 career AHL games between the Admirals and the Albany River Rats. During that time he has amassed 62 goals and 123 points with 625 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 22 career Calder Cup Playoff games, posting two goals and eight points with 30 penalty minutes. Angelidis made his professional debut in 2006-07, skating in 24 games with the ECHL's Florida Everblades and posting ten goals and 18 points with 54 penalty minutes before joining the River Rats.
A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Angelidis spent his junior career with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League, where he amassed 78 goals and 132 points in 240 contests. He had his best junior season in 2005-06 when he ranked third in the OHL for goals with 53 while being named to the league’s First All-Star Team. Angelidis was also awarded the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy as the 2005-06 OHL Humanitarian of the Year. That season he was also voted at the league’s Most Improved Player in the Western Conference Coaches Poll.
Angelidis, now entering his sixth professional season, first signed with the Lightning on August 4, 2010. He originally signed with the Carolina Hurricanes as an undrafted free agent on July 21, 2006.
