Admirals Sign Defensemen Kevin Quick and Jeff Dimmen to AHL Contracts
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Admirals have signed defensemen Kevin Quick and Jeff Dimmen to American Hockey League Standard Player's Contracts, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today. Quick signed a one-year contract while Dimmen signed a one-year contract with a club option for the 2012-13 season.
Quick, 23, a 6-foot, 181-pound defenseman born in Buffalo, New York, has spent the majority of the last four seasons with the Admirals. In 2010-11 with Norfolk, Quick established career highs in assists and points. In 45 games with the Admirals, he posted 15 assists. He also made his Calder Cup Playoff debut, playing two games with two penalty minutes. In 159 career AHL games, Quick has recorded one goal and 32 points with 24 penalty minutes.
Quick has appeared in six career NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning, posting one assist. A third-round draft pick (78th overall) by the Lightning during the 2006 draft, Quick originally signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Tampa Bay on June 2, 2008.
Before joining the Admirals during the 2007-08 season, Quick played in 21 games at the University of Michigan, where he notched two goals and four points with 12 penalty minutes.
Dimmen, 25, a 6-foot, 195-pound defenseman born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, made his professional debut last season with the AHL's Portland Pirates. In seven games with the Pirates following the conclusion of his collegiate career, Dimmen recorded an assist and seven penalty minutes. He also appeared in seven Calder Cup Playoff games, recording six penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, Dimmen spent four seasons at the University of Maine. In 135 games as a Black Bear, Dimmen notched 28 goals and 68 points. He earned the 2010 Shawn Walsh Defensive Player of the Year award and earned a spot on the 2010 Hockey East Second Team. Last season, Dimmen was co-winner of the Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete award after posting a 4.0 grade point average in his senior year. Dimmen has earned a finance degree.
Prior to joining the Black Bears, Dimmen spent four seasons in the North American Hockey League. In 133 career junior games, Dimmen posted 14 goals and 76 points between Springfield, Wasilla, St. Louis and Alaska. In 2006-07, Dimmen spent part of the season with the St. Louis Bandits, who were coached by current Admirals head coach Jon Cooper.
