#16: Brian Martin Registers a Hat Trick in Three Consective Games

The Admirals 25th home opener on October 11 is just 16 days away! So we are counting down the days recognizing 25 memorable moments in the 25 years of Admirals Hockey, in a segment we call 25 in 25. Each day we will highlight a great moment in the Admirals proud 25-year history to get you set for the 2013-14 home opener!

#16: Brian Martin Registers a Hat Trick in 3 Consecutive.

Many hockey players will go through their entire careers without ever achieving that single game scoring milestone known as a hat trick. A hat trick is when a player scores three goals in a single game. If a player scores three goals consecutively for his/her respective team, then that is known as a "natural" hat trick.

When a player scores a hat trick in three consecutive games, that is called an "ECHL Record."

Hampton Roads Admirals forward Brian Martin became the first ECHL player to accomplish this feat on December 12, 1989 in a game against the Knoxville Cherokees at the Norfolk Scope. His previous hat tricks during this stretch came on December 9, 1989 against Nashville, and December 10 against the Virginia Lancers.

Martin almost waited until the last minute to net the hat-trick in that third game, as he lit the lamp at 18:58 of the third period to give him his third hat-trick in as many games.

Martin totaled 347 points (171g, 176a) in four seasons with the Admirals from 1989-1993. Martin appeared in a number of American Hockey League games during those years as well in stints with New Haven, Halifax, Moncton, Utica, Maine, and Baltimore.

Only four players in ECHL history have accomplished this feat. Martin set the standard for them all.

Tomorrow on 25 in 25, we will relive moment #15 as we countdown to the Admirals home opener on October 11!
