Admirals Bolster Blue Line with Addition of Steve Eminger
NORFOLK, VA -- The Norfolk Admirals announced Friday that the team has signed defenseman Steve Eminger to an AHL contract.
Eminger, 30, joins the Admirals after logging two assists in 25 appearances with CSKA Moscow of the KHL earlier this season. Last season, the 6-2, 207-pound blueliner played in 35 regular season games, and 11 postseason contests for the NHL's New York Rangers.
Eminger brings a wealth of NHL experience to Norfolk, having totaled 99 points (19g, 80a) and 350 penalty minutes in 488 career games split between Washington (2002-2008), Philadelphia (2008), Tampa Bay (2009), Florida (2009), Anaheim (2009-10), and the Rangers (2010-2013).
The Woodbridge, Ontario native was a first-round draft selection of the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Eminger has appeared in 103 games for the AHL's Portland Pirates from 2003-2005, and registered a goal in four games played last season with the Connecticut Whale.
Eminger amassed 135 points (29g, 106a) during his four-year OHL career with the Kitchener Rangers from 1999-2003. He recorded a career best 59 points (19g, 39a) for Kitchener during the 2001-02 season.
Tonight the Admirals battle rival the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Scope beginning at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,025 fans will receive an Admirals Challenge Coin courtesy of John's Tax Service and WTKR News Channel 3.
