NORFOLK, Va. – Max Sauve and the Norfolk Admirals crossed the finish line first in what was the Admirals’ longest game of the season in a 1-0 victory over the Manchester Monarchs. Norfolk leads their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal two games to one after Wednesday night’s win at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Admirals’ John Gibson (2-1-0) turned in a brilliant 35-save shutout for his second professional playoff victory. Jean-Francois Berube’s (1-2-0) workload got heavier as the night went on and he finally allowed the game-winner late in overtime, stopping 30 of 31 total shots.
There were no goals through the first 74 minutes of action until Sauve flipped a backhander underneath Berube’s left arm at 14:51 in the overtime session. It was Sauve’s first of the playoffs in two postseason games and his first goal in nearly three months.
Norfolk can eliminate the top-seeded Monarchs on Friday night in Game 4 at Scope. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 5 will also be at Scope on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
2014 Calder Cup Playoff tickets are available to purchase for individual games or in two different package options. Stop by the Admirals’ Administrative Offices at Scope, call (757) 640-1212 weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or visit norfolkadmirals.com.
