Pete Michaud: Hello, fans!
Hello, fans! I hope everyone had a great summer, but it?s time for hockey once again! It?s also time for my first blog entry, so here goes?.
After the struggles of 2007-08, I?m cautiously optimistic about this year. It certainly looks like there?s quite a bit more talent to work with this season. Newcomers like C Zenon Konopka, who?s had 20 or more goals each of the past 2 years in the AHL, rookie D Ty Wishart, a former #1 draft pick who tallied 59 or more points each of the past 3 years in juniors, and RW Brandon Bochenski (is he a newcomer or a returner?), who netted 33g in just 35 games here 2 years ago, have me excited about the prospects ahead.
I?m also eager to see how Darren Rumble handles the move to the head coach?s spot and what new general manager Mike Butters will do in his post. Neither will ever be faulted for a lack of energy! Of course, the off-season for the Tampa Bay organization was all about change, with new ownership and the departure of the Lightning?s head coach and general manager. That model of change has certainly filtered down to Norfolk, but it?s not to say we won?t see some familiar faces like Radek Smolenak, Jay Rosehill, Chris Lawrence and Brandon Segal back with us once again.
The change also will be felt in the front office, where Joe Gregory takes over Mark Bernard?s job as Vice-President. I think Joe will continue to build upon the good things already in place. Say ?hello? to him if you get a chance.
Some things never seem to change, though. Pat Shetler and I will be back behind the mikes once again this season. Admirals games and our weekly Admirals Hour (Thursday, 6-7pm, Starting Oct 9) will once again air all year on ESPN-Radio 1310.
Well,?I hope you?ll check back regularly. I?ll be writing?er,?blogging?here on a regular basis. Until next time?.,
