Admirals to Welcome Four Western Conference Teams to Scope in 2008-09

ADMIRALS RELEASE SCHEDULE OF OPPONENTS

NORFOLK – Today, the Norfolk Admirals announced their schedule of opponents for 2008-09. Next season’s docket will feature Western Conference teams for the first time in four seasons.

The Blackhawks were the Admirals’ NHL affiliate from 2000-2007, leading to the chance that several former Admirals such as Troy Brouwer (pictured) may return to Scope as opponents.

The docket will also include one game apiece against the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings), Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens) and Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado Avalanche). The trips to Scope will be the first ever for the IceHogs, Bulldogs and Monsters. Norfolk had not played against a Western Conference team since the Houston Aeros defeated the Admirals 3-1 at Scope on December 31, 2004.

The bulk of the ’08-09 home schedule will be comprised of 25 games against East Division Opponents, with four games apiece against the Albany River Rats (Carolina Hurricanes), Binghamton Senators (Ottawa Senators), Bridgeport Sound Tigers (New York Islanders), Philadelphia Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins). The Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals) will visit Scope five times.

The remainder of the 2008-09 home opposition will come in ten games against Atlantic Division foes with a pair of games each against the Lowell Devils (New Jersey Devils), Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings), Portland Pirates (Buffalo Sabres) and Worcester Sharks (San Jose Sharks) and single games against the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins) and Springfield Falcons (Edmonton Oilers). The only Eastern Conference team Norfolk will not face next season is the Hartford Wolf Pack (New York Rangers).

The Admirals will play an equal amount of home and road games against each opponent next season.

Last week, the Admirals released the dates of six guaranteed home games for 2007-08: Friday, October 31, 2008, Friday, November 7, 2008, Friday, December 19, 2008, Friday, January 16, 2009, Saturday, January 17, 2009 and Friday, January 30, 2009. The Admirals do not yet know who their opponents will be on these dates. Group outings, catered parties and birthday parties may be booked now for these events by calling (757) 640-1212.

The American Hockey League will release the complete 2008-09 schedule by early August.
