Admirals Sign Defenseman Jeff May to Tryout Contract
NORFOLK – The Norfolk Admirals have signed defenseman Jeff May to an Amateur Tryout Contract, Admirals General Manager Mike Butters announced today.
“Jeff May had a good training camp," said Butters. "He is a good puck mover and has great aptitude for the game. We look forward to seeing him develop into a potential NHL prospect.”
May, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman from Richmond, British Columbia, will be making his professional debut. Last season, May ranked fifth in assists and twelfth in scoring among WHL defenseman. In 54 games between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Prince Albert Raiders, May netted four goals and 40 assists.
The 21-year-old had skated in 310 career WHL games between Prince Albert and Lethbridge from 2002-03 to 2007-08, scoring 19 goals and adding 124 assists with 338 penalty minutes. He also netted four goals and 13 assists with 29 penalty minutes in 44 WHL playoff games.
The Detroit Red Wings originally drafted May in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
The 20th season of Admirals hockey officially kicks off on Friday and Saturday at Scope against the Hershey Bears.
