Joe Gregory has been Vice President of the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals for the past five seasons and is entering his second season as General Manager of the International League's Norfolk Tides. Gregory has worked in professional sports for more than 15 years.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Gregory graduated from Youngstown State University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he worked as both the Coordinator of Tournament Operations and the Coordinator of Sales and Marketing at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic in Vienna, Ohio. Gregory had been working at the tournament as an operations assistant prior to that since high school.
After his time with the LPGA, Gregory became the Director of Business Development for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a Short-Season Class-A baseball team affiliated with the Cleveland Indians. There, he oversaw all sponsorship and advertising sales and cultivated community relationships.
From 2006-08, Gregory served as General Manager of the Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League. In that capacity, he ran the day-to-day operations of the SteelHounds. During Gregory's tenure in Youngstown, the season ticket base increased by 70 percent and he negotiated the team's first National Hockey League affiliation.
Gregory joined the Admirals for the 2008-09 season and has seen marked growth in attendance and corporate partnerships in each of his five seasons at the helm of the club. Since joining the Admirals, the team's average attendance has grown by more than 1,000 fans per game. The 2012-13 season will mark the second straight year with an average nightly attendance of more than 5,000 fans per game – a feat that had not been accomplished in any of the prior 11 seasons.
On October 4, 2011, Gregory was named General Manager of the Tides and has run operations for both the Admirals and Tides ever since. The Tides continue to thrive as one of the most successful teams in minor league baseball.
