TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have recalled defenseman Mathieu Roy (WAH) and forward James Wright from the Admirals, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
Roy, 6-foot-2, 208 pounds, has played in 13 games for the Admirals this season, recording two goals and 11 points with 25 penalty minutes. He leads Norfolk and is tied for ninth in the AHL in scoring among defensemen. Roy has skated in 269 career AHL games with Norfolk, Syracuse, Rochester, Springfield, Hamilton, Edmonton and Toronto, amassing 18 goals and 106 points. He was named to the Canadian AHL All-Star Team for the Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic during the 2006-07 season.
A native of St. Georges, Québec, Roy has played in one game with the Lightning this season on November 4, 2010 at Los Angeles, recording 9:22 of ice time and two penalty minutes. Roy has played in 62 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, Columbus and Edmonton, notching two goals and 13 points. He was drafted by Edmonton in the seventh round, 215th overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent on July 29, 2010.
Wright, 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, had appeared in each of Norfolk's first 15 games of 2010-11, recording four goals and 12 points with eight penalty minutes. He is tied for fifth in scoring and tied for fourth in goals on the Admirals. This is Wright's first call-up of the season.
The second-year pro split last season between the Lightning and the WHL's Vancouver Giants. He appeared in 48 games for Tampa Bay in his pro rookie campaign, recording two goals and five points. He was second among Lightning rookies in 2009-10 for both time on ice with 11:38 per game and points.
After he was reassigned to the Giants, Wright scored six goals and 19 points in 21 regular season games before notching seven goals and 16 points in 16 playoff games. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Wright was drafted by the Lightning in the fourth round, 117th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
