HERSHEY, Penn. – Captain Chris Durno scored his ninth goal of the season, but it was the lone goal of the contest as the Norfolk Admirals (18-7-5-1) saw their eight-game point streak snapped, losing to the Hershey Bears (18-12-0-1), 3-1, on Sunday evening at Giant Center. The Admirals will return to Scope for games on Tuesday and Thursday against the Charlotte Checkers at 7:15 p.m.
It was the first regulation loss for Norfolk since a 3-0 setback on November 28 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. They won six games and lost two in overtime in the following eight games before tonight’s loss at Hershey.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal midway through the first period. Patrick McNeill sent a one-timer from the right point. The shot was deflected by Zach Miskovic in the low slot past Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski 8:13 into the game.
Norfolk tied the game 7:19 into the second period. Johan Harju sent a pass from behind the net to Chris Durno on the goalmouth near the left circle. Durno sent a snap shot past Bears goaltender Braden Holtby for his ninth goal of the season to level the score at 1-1.
Hershey reclaimed the lead 5:20 into the third period. Keith Aucoin attempted a centering feed from behind the net. The puck ricocheted off Tokarski’s stick and went between his legs and into the goal for a 2-1 Bears lead.
Steve Pinizzotto sealed the victory by scoring an empty-net goal at 18:57.
Dustin Tokarski (29 shots, 27 saves) was saddled with the loss. Braden Holtby (32 shots, 31 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 0-4 on the power play. Hershey was 1-4.
