Admirals Sign Ondrej Palat and Trevor Ludwig to Tryout Contracts
NORFOLK, Va. Ė The Norfolk Admirals have signed forward Ondrej Palat to an Amateur Tryout Contract and defenseman Trevor Ludwig to a Professional Tryout Contract, Admirals General Manger Julien BriseBois announced today.
Palat, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, skated in 61 games last season with the Drummondville Voltiguers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 39 goals and 96 points. He finished the season tied for first on the team in points. The 19-year-old Czech Republic native added 11 points during the Voltiguers playoff run, finding the net four times and contributing seven assists.
Palat finished the 2010-11 regular season ranked fourth in scoring among all QMJHL skaters. He also ranked sixth in goals, while his assist total was good for seventh in the league. He was fifth in power play goals with 15 and sixth in game-winning goals with seven.
Palat was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Ludwig, 6-foot-1, 201 pounds, played in 64 games last season with the AHLís Texas Stars. The 26-year- old defender totaled seven points and a plus-5 rating and was a fixture on the Stars defense, which allowed the sixth-fewest goals in the AHL last season. The Rhinelander, WI native was the sixth-round selection of the Dallas Stars (183rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Ludwig is entering his fourth full professional season. In 134 career AHL games between the Iowa Stars, Manitoba Moose and Texas Stars, he has scored four goals and 18 points with a plus-8 rating. In 49 career ECHL games with the Idaho Steelheads, Ludwig has three goals and 16 points.
Ludwig appeared in 115 games in a four-year collegiate hockey career with Providence College, scoring two goals and 15 points.
