ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have re-signed defenseman Mat Clark to a one-year contract.
Clark, 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, led all Admirals with 71 games played last season. He posted one goal and ten points with 79 penalty minutes. Following the AHL regular season, Clark was recalled by Anaheim on April 27th, but did not appear in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 214 career AHL games between the Admirals, Syracuse Crunch and Manitoba Moose, Clark has posted four goals and 38 points with 279 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 10 career Calder Cup Playoff games, netting one goal and two points with 11 penalty minutes.
A 22-year-old native of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Clark has appeared in two career NHL games with the Ducks, going scoreless in 2011-12. Anaheim selected Clark in the second round (37th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He also appeared in 129 career junior games with the OHL's Brampton Battalion, netting ten goals and 46 points with 179 penalty minutes.
The Admirals are entering their second season as the AHL affiliate of the Ducks. In 2012-13, nine players donned both the Admirals and Ducks jerseys. Norfolk was one of the AHL's hottest teams down the stretch in 2012-13, posting the second-best record in the Eastern Conference from February 8 to the end of the season but falling just two points short of a berth in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The 25th home opener in Admirals history is set for Friday, October 11, 2013, at Norfolk Scope Arena. Admirals hockey has a strong tradition in Hampton Roads – including four championships in the previous 24 seasons. Since 1989-90, 131 former Admirals players have graduated to play at least one game in the NHL, earning nearly 6,000 NHL points and 1,000 NHL goaltending victories in nearly 19,000 NHL games. Last month, eight former Admirals players and staff won the 2013 Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks, increasing the amount of former Admirals players or staff with their names on the Stanley Cup to 24 individuals a total of 32 times.
